Name: Berta

Role: I work at the circulation desk and I organize programs like the Seed Library, Teen Group, STEM camps, Spanish Conversation Group, and Travelogue.

Favourite book: Every so often I go back and read Alice in Wonderland. My sister & I used to quote to each other from this story when we were teens. Lately I am reading lots of graphic novels with my teen daughter: the last one was Solo Leveling by Chugong, a Korean manhwa. And, I really really enjoyed Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith.

Favourite memory at the library: Hearing a group of 8 to 11 years old laugh, banter and encourage each other during a Sumobot Competition event. I also love opening library accounts for people who have just moved into town and are discovering the things the municipality has to offer. It feels great to welcome people.

Fun fact about me: During the lockdown, my kids and I piled on the basement floor every single piece of Lego we had in the house, then we separated the pieces by colour, and finally we rebuilt every set. It took us the whole summer. We have a lot of Star Wars Lego – so picture hundreds of shapes in different shades of grey – it was a challenge!

Name: Sheila

Role: Library Assistant at Pakenham Branch

Favourite book: I loved reading “Woman, Watching” by Merilyn Symonds. It may sound like a birding book, but it’s so much more. It is also about the life of a fascinating woman. A new book to our library is a cookbook called “Evergreen Kitchen: Weeknight Vegetarian Dinners for Everyone.” It has great pictures accompanied by interesting recipes that anyone will enjoy.

Favourite thing about the library: I so enjoy the Pakenham branch, and all the familiar and supportive village patrons.

Fun fact: I have started thinking about baking for Christmas and realize my Christmas cookie recipe is the same and only cookie recipe I bake all year! Why mess with success?
